ASDA celebrated its 50th Birthday in 2015 with a give away to good causes .... Community Wise received an award of £10,000 towards our Bring the Back to Life refurbishment project (see below).  We began life as Eastbourne YWCA in 1965, so 2015 was our golden anniversary too.  THANK YOU ASDA!  The restoration and renewal of the back of our premises is now complete, is all paid for and looks fabulous. Our community premises and facilities are second to none.

Since 2006 our freehold premises have undergone complete refurbishment, renewal and upgrading ...we now have wonderful indoor facilities.  'Out the back' there was an enclosed area of ground not visible from the front. It was much as it was when the Community Centre began its life in 1965 as the Eastbourne YWCA (see history page). During 2013 an imaginative scheme was drawn up to bring the back to life. Work to build an extension, a new community room and an all-weather play area for our children and young people's groups began in January 2015. Work was completed in April 2016. Everyone is now benefiting from these renewed facilities - especially 100 preschool children, the 25 members of Sussex Epilepsy Youth Group and local children aged 9 to 14 who attend our Live Wires Youth Club.  Our THANKS go to South-East Water, Waitrose, Sussex Police Property Fund, RM Pettitt Recycling and REID BRIGGS INSURANCE BROKERS who have given donations.  Thank you to The Garfield Weston Foundation, The Henry Smith Charity, All Churches Trust, GEM, The Beatrice Laing Foundation, the Barnabas Trust, Sussex Community Foundation, EBC local Ward Councillors and The Rank Foundation for their awards.

A huge thank you to LJB and Trevor May our main contractors. Grateful thanks to Gabriel Conolly, local tree surgeon, who has shredded and removed the branches and cuttings overhanging the play area free of charge.  Thank you to the volunteers who cut back the overgrowth.  Thank you to Magnet who have supplied kitchen units at cost price .... Thank you to the volunteers who have cleared the gardens and overhanging trees, fitted kitchen units, laid flooring and decorated the lovely new community room on the back mezzanine which is now in community use ....

Energy saving:

An energy feasibility study was undertaken in 2009 with a grant from The Green Energy Fund. The recommendations were to install a condensing boiler, install cavity wall insulation, insulate the roof and install solar panels.  These measures were undertaken over the next three years with thanks to financial support from E-on Sustainable Energy Fund and Veolia Environmental Trust Landfill Communities Fund. 42 solar panels were installed on the flat roof by Freetricity in 2012.
